POWER OUTAGES

Puerto Rico has a very weak power grid, especially after the damage sustained by hurricane Maria. Power outage is a common occurrence and beyond our control. There will be no refunds for power outages beyond our control.

  1. Check first if the issue is only the apartment or the full building
  2. If just the apartment contact Ingrid (contact us page)
  3. If it is the building, the building manager will be already aware and will be doing everything in his power to get it corrected
  4. Try not to open the fridge if you have food there
  5. If power outage is more than a day, please empty the ice-maker or the melted water will be all over the kitchen floor. There are some cooling elements in the freezer you can use to place in the fridge to maintain the temperature a bit longer.

There are generators in the building, so the elevators and lobby will be functional. The lobby will be open to everyone to come and charge phones, computers, etc. There is also a fridge in the lobby for medicine needed to be cool. This building grid is the same as the airport, so it always has first priority, please be patient. The guards can always give an update on anything happening to fix the problem.

We have solar/battery lights in each room to use as well as flashlights on the night table drawers. There is also a small battery that can be used to power the portable fan at night or charge your phone/computer. Contact the property manager for any questions.

Once power is restored, please shut down the A/C, as it will not cool. Wait about an hour to turn on again. The AC works via a cooling tower that needs time to be restarted.

WATER HEATER NOT WORKING

If the water is not heating up, first wait one hour. If still not working it may be the breaker. Reset the breaker located on the kitchen. You can find the breaker inside the cabinet right on top of the sink. It is behind the plates where there is a false back. After reset, wait another hour for water to heat. If still not working call Ingrid, she will send someone as soon as possible.

WATER OUTAGES

Water outage is less common but can happen, especially after a storm or a water drought on the island. There will be no refunds for water outages beyond our control.

  1. Check first if the issue is only the apartment or the full building
  2. If just the apartment contact Ingrid  (contact us page)
  3. If it is the building, the building manager will be already aware and will be doing everything to get it corrected.
  4. The building has a water tank in the roof, depending on the length of the outage they will turn it on for periods to ration it.
  5. Turn off A/C, it will not cool due to the need of water. The A/C is connected to the buildings cooling tower that will not work if there is no water.

HURRACAINE

Please follow local authorities instructions. We recommend to return to your home before hurricane arrives. If leaving belongings behind to evacuate, our apartment is safe. All windows are wind and impact resistant. Water will still come in and accumulate up to 1 or 2 inches in certain spots of the apartment. There will be no water nor electricity for at least a week or more, depending on the damage. Airport may be closed up to a week after a hurricane. Remember we cannot take responsibility for your property or safety.
